RE: Our First Trip "Out West"

The Snake River runs the length of Grand Teton NP. The first picture above shows a side channel off the river with a beaver dam in the foreground.

RE: Vent Fan Recommendations

I decided to replace our noisy little bathroom fan a couple of months ago. After researching the available products, I decided that the best fan for our needs was the Maxxair Turbo-Max as mentioned by BarneyS above. Here are the reasons: 1. The Turbo-Max installs right over the existing vent. No need to go through the hassle of removing the original vent, drilling new holes in the roof, caulking, etc. 2. The design of the Turbo-Max keeps the rain out without the need for a rain sensor to automatically close the vent. The 3-speed, thermostat controlled Turbo-Max is less expensive than a Fantastic Fan with 3-speeds, thermostat and a rain sensor. Without a rain sensor, the Turbo-Max has fewer parts/controls to fail. 3. Because there is no concern about rain getting in, the vent fan can continue running when it is raining. Also, I like to leave the roof vents open to allow air circulation when the MH is in storage between trips. We have found the Turbo-Max to be extremely quiet on low speed. It is inaudible outside the bathroom, even with the door wide open.

RE: Our First Trip "Out West"

If you want to paint mountains, IMO nothing beats the Tetons. Also, lots of folks fly fish in Yellowstone. http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m274/CloudDriver/2005WestTrip/BeaverPond1.jpg http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m274/CloudDriver/2005WestTrip/GrandTeton.jpg

RE: Ocean Waves at outer banks nc

Here's an example of the sites at Ocean Waves - site 34 to be exact. Plenty of room for your 5er. http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m274/CloudDriver/Assateague06/OuterBanks2001.jpg

RE: XP + Vista + Quicken transfer

We have a Gateway desktop running XP that I use for Quicken when at home. Bought an HP laptop with Vista Home Premium service pack 1 in May for use when traveling. Moving Quicken files from one to the other is a simple matter of making a backup from Quicken to the memory stick then a restore on the other machine. No problem going in either direction.

RE: Water heater bypass? (Winnebago Access 31c)

The water heater bypass valve or valves should be at or close to the water heater. That's the way it is on our Minnie. We can access the bypass valve by removing a drawer located below the fridge.

RE: Surge Guard

We have a 30 ft extension cord that gets plugged into the post. The 30 amp SurgeGuard stays in the locked electrical compartment. I have been thinking of shortening the original RV cord to reduce the overall wire length, but haven't gotten around to doing so yet.

RE: Battling Mice

Gdetrailer has the best answer. Find and seal up all of the holes underneath and anywhere else around the trailer. Mice can get though some really small holes. Turn the lights on inside the trailer at night and go outside to look for light leaking out through gaps. As an aside, we always use peanut butter to bait the snap type mouse traps.

RE: Access the Internet when Traveling

When at home, we use Verizon DSL for internet access. When traveling, we use campgrounds with wifi whenever we want to check email, pay bills online, etc. We have found that more and more campgrounds have wifi available year to year.

RE: Changing Fuel Pump on Onan Generator

I had a fuel pump failure on our 4kw Onan. The generator would run for 10-15 minutes then surge and shut down. After about 1/2 hour it would start and again run for only 10 minutes or so. The start switch at the generator has a prime function that runs the fuel pump without cranking the starter. I noticed that after the generator would shut down, there was no sound from the fuel pump on prime. Apparently, the pump was overheating and seizing up. If your 7kw model has a prime function, this test may verify the pump.

RE: Class C bunk water leak

I don't know whether this is similar to your situation, but there is a panel above the front window in the cabover of our Minnie that can be removed to gain access to the inside of the clearance lights. See picture below. The panel goes from above the window to the roof line and is held in place by two metal strips, top and bottom. The metal strips have grooves that the edges of the panel fit into. By pushing on the panel midway between the strips, the edges pull out of the grooves allowing the panel to be removed. http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m274/CloudDriver/RVBlower/Front1.jpg

RE: Putting Fridge on Propane while using A/C

We leave the fridge set to "Auto". When at a CG and hooked up to electric, it runs on electric. When on the road or camping without hookups, it runs on propane.

RE: Detroit to Nova Scotia

We were in Nova Scotia for 2 weeks this past June. Spent most of that time on Cape Breton Island. Our favorite CG was MacLeod's Beach Campsites in Dunvegan - right on the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Cape Breton Highlands National Park is a beautiful drive, but leave the trailer behind in the CG due to the very steep grades thru the Park. Fortress Louisborg is also great. We also enjoyed seeing the 40 ft tidal range in the Bay of Fundy in New Brunswick. We were disappointed with the scallop dinner in Digby. We had much better scallops in Camden Maine on the way up. We took the ferry from Digby to St. John. The ferry to Bar Harbor was way too expensive. Go to the tourism web sites for Nova Scotia and New Brunswick and order their info and maps.

RE: has anyone stayed at Ocean Waves in the Outer Banks

Click here for the Ocean Waves website picture gallery. There is a link to a satellite view, which shows that there are only a few sites with significant number of trees. All sites are level and paved. Here's a photo of our site from a few years ago - site 34. http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m274/CloudDriver/Assateague06/OuterBanks2001.jpg

Another possibility is Munising Tourist Park. Right on the shore of Lake Superior.

RE: Stinky tank - problem resolved

Our Minnie has the bathroom sink drain going to the black tank too. The sink came with a plug for the drain. However, we have odor problems from the shower drain losing the water seal in the trap due to bumps going down the road.

RE: Two Things That Made Our Trip

We are always looking for ways to reduce water usage when dry camping. We already take "navy showers" (get wet, shut off shower head, soap up, turn on water at shower head, rinse off). Is there a water shutoff valve on the Oxygenic shower head?

RE: Infro. on camping in Michigan`s UP

We spent a few days in the UP last Sept. on our way to Yellowstone. Really enjoyed watching the big ships going through the Soo Locks at Sault St. Marie. Did some short hikes at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Stayed at Munising Tourist Park for Pictured Rocks. Right on the shore of Lake Superior.
